This big girl is 6 months old! Happy half-birthday, Olive!

Not every 6 month old gets to say their thighs are busting out of 18 month jammies, but that's my Olive! Love her!

You've heard the saying "....long story short." Well, unfortunately it seems like there's no short way of telling this one.

Yesterday, my Olive turned 6 months old. The past two months have been a bit stressful around here due to her gradual development of a tricky case of 'silent reflux.'

Maybe you've heard of it? Or maybe, like me, it's all new to you. Olive hardly ever spits up, but has many of the same other problems as reflux babies. She has refused nursing (though her weight gain has not necessarily reflected these reduced feedings). She will get frustrated from feedings, and be very squirmy, uncomfortable, and 'gulpy.'

She has been waking very frequently at night, screaming in pain, and can not be laid flat after her feedings. She has lots of wet burbs, and frequent hiccups. She is not comfortable unless upright.

The hardest part is not knowing exactly how to help her. The second hardest part is that neither of us have been getting enough sleep.

I've wanted to blog about this problem for awhile, but it was hard to tell if her problem was what I thought it was. I recently started a 'diary' of events, and that helped me to see that ALAS! I was not crazy, or making things up in my, perhaps overly-worried-motherly-way. No, indeed, she is dealing with painful acid reflux. She's on some new medicine that I am hoping will help (Prevacid). But it can take 7-14 days to fully kick in (we are on day 7 over here). Zantac didnt seem to work very well for her.

Other than that, my kiddos have both been pretty healthy this month, so for that I am grateful. My heart aches when my kids are sick, so healthy noses and what-not makes me giddy!

I am off to make jewelry. Elias is at 'school' and Olive is napping. It's the perfect scenario for making jewelry.

I have been busy this new year checking in on my Kansas City retail shops that carry Sylvia C. Jewelry. I love that part of my job. It gives me such a feeling of connectedness to this city that I love. Ah, yes, it is also the perfect excuse to get gussied up (once or twice a month feels great when you are a mom at home with two tiny kidlets).

I have a new shop! Sylvia C. Jewelry can now be found at Fashionista Exchange & Boutique. It's a lovely little boutique with excellent finds. I am really happy to be selling my jewelry there! Go and 'like' them!

and.... what I was originally going to post about: organization.

My new year's resolution is 'to get organized.' But, when I only post once a week, no one wants to open up a blog post with an organization bin staring at them.

It is my professional opinion that you would much rather see chubby thighs, and funny baby faces. But, on a side note, I am trying to get organized.

I'm taking baby steps (see, I tied it all together!). But to be honest, I feel overwhelmed. One look inside my towel closet, coat closet, spice cabinet, etc, and I feel like I'm drowning. I think that makes me a closet hoarder. ;)

Really, we just have limited storage space, and I have to be smarter about how I store things. Any and all tips will be appreciated. I am hoping to tackle one space each week. Or each month. We'll see how my progress goes.

Do you remember Tuesday's post about the ideas (the ones that have me)? Well, this idea has me no more. This idea is out in the world, or on my wrist, as I could say. And, I love it.

And, I love, love, love it when I make something that I am thrilled to put my name on (metaphorcally, of course). It puts me on cloud 9 of creative bliss.

I read this quote and could totally and utterly relate.

Once I get an idea-- it consumes me. My newest idea becomes an obsession in my head until I can create it with my own hands.

Oftentimes it all starts with a sketch.  I love sketching new jewelry designs. No, I am not so great at drawing, but putting pen to paper is something I always have been good at.

For me, it's simply about getting as many ideas out there as possible. From there, some of them fully cultivate and some of them do not. It's a process. A beautiful process.

Speaking of my etsy shop, it is now closed for the remainder of the holiday season. 

WHEW! It was a busy one! Thanks for all of your orders. I am so grateful to all of my wonderful customers who make my "job" what it is. 

But, I must be totally honest when I say: I am in *dire need* of a break! My kidlets, the holiday shopping, and daily (never ending) household work has me feeling like my head is just above water. And, worst of all, that leaves little-to-no-time to create new (and beautiful!) things, which is what I love the *VERY* most about my jewelry business.

So, what that being said, I simply must stick to my own motto: "follow your bliss"

I plan to use the next couple of weeks off to make a new plan for my business for the new year. I'm not exactly sure what is going to change, but there are definitely going to be some tweaks.

you know it's a busy time of year when your two year old says to you:

It's  going quite well, thank you. I seem to be handling the rush of orders  much better this year. Last year, I was super-duper-waaaay nauseous (pregnant) with  that sweetheart in the photo above. She was just the size of  peanut, and was only in my tummy (and my dreams).

Needless to say, I am nearly 100% positive this is going to be the best Christmas ever.

ALSO, I *just* decided: December 10th will be my final day to accept holiday  orders this year. So, come on over to my shop, and don't come whining to me  saying I didn't give you fair warning. ;)

More NEW earrings in my shop! Notice a trend? I have been busy making new things. I love it! Hooray for babies going to bed a bit earlier, and taking good naps.

I have been missing from the scene for a loooong time, so here are some ongoings:

* I am now cloth diapering. It's a bit more work, but I like it. It will likely save us money, and save the planet. Booyah & Booyah.

* I have two appointments today. This afternoon I'm meeting up with a lady from The Children's Miracle Network to discuss a collaboration piece I will make to benefit their organization. I am beyond excited. I love that something as fabulous as {my} jewelry can help make a difference.

* This evening, I am heading over to my niece's Girl Scout meeting to talk about how I started my own jewelry business. Public Speaking 101. Wish me luck! :)

* Even though I blog very little, I still think "in blog form" (often saying to myself, OH, that would make a great blog post!). I hope to return back to the scene more regularly someday.

Olive 3 months

After following FlyLady's directions to thoroughly clean my sink, we headed outside with my camera in tow.

My goal for this morning was to try and snap a photo of our kids for our Christmas card.

I'm starting to think it might be impossible to get a good picture of BOTH of them. Sure one can look cute, and then the other, but timing it just right where they both look charming? Highly difficult. I have one picture that I *might* use, but I think I'll try at least one more time to achieve the impossible.

Last night I whipped up this new button. I like these earrings and I like the idea of highlighting some of my other collections (other than stamped items, that is). I've been brainstorming lots of new ideas for jewelry. I think I am finally getting my creative groove back. And I like it. I like it a lot.

Olive is 2.5 months old already. I can't believe how fast her infant-hood is going .

I came to a very beautiful realization the other day.
It's the same theory I used back when I first decided I wanted to "be a writer."

It's quite simple. Here it is:

If you want to be a writer, write.
If you want to be a painter, paint.
And, if you want to be a jewelry designer, design jewelry!

The act of being something, is typically only made true by the act of doing something.

So, the other day, I sat down and sketched some new jewelry ideas and the next day I played around with some various components, coming up with new designs. It was absolutely lovely.

Sure, I may not have all the time I would like to have to further my skills in the jewelry making field (right now). But, I do have the time and desire to continually create new and exciting pieces with the skill-set and materials that I do have access to.

What can you be, made true simply by doing?

YAY! We have gorgeous new hardwood floors! It was a really long weekend. Our house was a disaster zone (actually, much more like a construction zone). It was really tricky caring for two small children, but we made it work.

Many thanks to my mom, step-dad, and husband for putting in three very long days to make it happen! They are amazing! I love the warmth of the floors. It makes our house feel soooo homey.

 These boots are comfortable and amazing, and I love them! I always feel very unsure about ordering online, but I figured it was worth a try since Piperlime has free return shipping. Well, they fit perfectly so I will most certainly not be returning them. 

I have wanted a pair of flat, tall, leather boots for a long time now. I am so excited! I can't wait to wear them with all my skirts and skinny jeans. (Just as soon as the temperatures drop below 80 again...) 

Oh, and this is our "before" floor. It's pretty, but it's laminate, and we've always loved the look and feel of REAL hardwood. So, that is what we are in the process of putting in.
Which means things are very messy around here. But, the end result is going to be fabulous!

My little sweetie looks bad-to-the-bone in this outfit. I can't believe she's already 2 months old.

I also can't believe how hard it has been for me to blog lately. I open my 'blogger' tab, and then... either someone poops up their back and needs an on-the-spot-bath, OR needs to be fed, OR needs to nap, OR something else very urgent.

Alas, I am determined to share something today. Perhaps I could even share a lot... if only in a random format.

Ok, here it goes:

* Olive had her two month shots today. We both survived.
* Ask any mom: it sucks watching your kids get shots.
* Luckily, Elias is old enough for the nose-mist instead of a flu shot. He did great with that.
* I often look at my two children and think WOW, I birthed those little suckers!
* We are getting ready to start a very messy and labor-intensive project: we're putting in hardwood floors.
* I love hardwood floors, and swoon at the thought of having them in my home!
* I love pinterest. Love, love, love it! It always leaves me feeling so inspired.

I have been madly in love with the 'shirt-tucked-into-your-skirt" look which I've seen all over the place. Unfortunately, it didn't look good with a pregnant belly, and also didn't look good with a muffin top. (Does any outfit look good with a muffin top? Bummer!)

Well, I was finally able to pull of the look, and I really liked it. I had a belt that I tried with it. And, it looked cute. But I really liked the simplicity of it without the belt.

Anyway, I have to be totally honest and say I wore this outfit LAST week, before my 2 year old got sick. Things have been pretty hectic. But, I am happy to say that I think he is finally feeling better. Three cheers for going back to "school" on Thursday:

Have I mentioned that I decided to do TWO days of mother's day out each week this year? I am so happy with that decision. Except how much it pained me to not be able to send him to school when he was sick (and I still had to pay! the injustice!).

I'm so very happy that things will be back to 'normal' soon.

I had this beautiful image made by Choking on Static ... her designs are great, and her prices are even better! I then had the image made into postcards (I added my website to the bottom). I love having something like this to give to people when they ask what I do. It says so much more than a business card! (That's where the subject of this post came from. Sorry. I'm running on little sleep, and that's all I could come up with.)

On the home-front things have been rough. Elias has been sick for 7 days. It has been a long and very stressful week. I've been (overly) anxious about Olive getting sick, but she has managed to stay well. Elias went to the doctor again today, and they confirmed that he still has croup, and he needs 2 more days of steroids.

I have the world's best neighbor, who watched Olive while I took Elias to the doctor. It was so nice to be there with just him, and not expose her to doctor-office-germs. What a blessing she is!

It's a good thing she's such a cutie, because she is being a bit tricky lately. Still pretty mellow, still sleeping well at night... but she's starting to get complicated for naps. I think her brother filled her in on all his secrets.

And, Elias is sick right now, so he did not get to go to school today. Boooooo. He wanted to go, and I wanted him to go, but he still had a fever.

I have lots of jewelry to make, and not enough time to make it. My kids are requiring extra snuggles today, and when that duty calls, it can't be ignored.

On a positive note, the windows are wide open and the weather could not be any more perfect.

My Time

Perhaps you're getting tired of it, (or perhaps you are elated!)... but my time alone this week was once again spent making jewelry.

This piece was made during an unbelievable TWO HOUR stretch of nap-time that I got from BOTH my kids at THE SAME time. The large span on time allowed lots of creativity, and this necklace was the result.

It can be made in gold or silver, and in any color of bead. It's gotten a lot of attention already! See what can happen when I have a decent amount of time alone? :)

My Time

I've been busy with jewelry work this week. But, it's creative and it makes me feel human, so it's officially classified as "my time material."

I was pretty nervous to get started making jewelry again (in case it's your first time visiting, I have an infant and a two year old I stay home with!), but the feeling of completing a order was so rewarding, I immediately hungered for more!

Sometimes all it takes is 15 minutes at my 'work station' and I am re-charged. It's strange, but true. And, it really makes me believe even more that every woman needs a space to call her own. I am always checking pinterest for new ideas to spiff-up my work space. I love it!

I love it when people tell me "I love reading your blog."

I also love it when people say, "I knew that already. I read it on your blog!"

Having a blog means that even though I am by myself with two kids all-week-long, I am still with you, my kindred spirits of this world.

Having this blog means there are people who know my story, and care about me. It means there are people praying for me, when they see I need it.

Having this blog means I have to carve out some time to make sense in words because there are people who will say "hey, what's up with your blog?"

Having this blog means I have to be as I wish to seem, because there is proof floating around the internet.

Having this blog gives me the chance to say "I love you." And really mean it. I hope your Sunday has been lovely.

this momma's on-goings

Olive is holding out on giving me an awake smile, but I did catch this sweet grin when she was sleeping. My heavy-duty camera is rarely readily available, so I am often snapping photos with my phone. Better than nothin' I figure...

She's a sugar, and I couldn't have picked out a sweeter baby if there was a line-up of storks a mile long.

Timmy accidentally picked up this cream the other evening at the store. There was mild cursing, upon the realization that he bought the FAT-FREE kind. Fat free cream? Excuse me? What's the point? How is it cream? Perhaps some of you purchase this nonsense, but we do not (intentionally). If we drink cream, we expect there to be fat in it! Perhaps that's why we have such a happy marriage. ;)

Sadly, this is the only good picture I got of Olive on her 1 month day. It's a travesty, because she very rarely cries. It's not a true representation of our first month. But, it is kinda cute! :)

I hope your Thursday has been lovely. BOTH of my littles are asleep right now, and I need to refuel. (Pretty badly.) So, I am off to read The Message and have a cup of fat-free coffee.

One lowly picture this week. Shame, shame!

But it was a progressive week for me in one area of my style-life...

I came up with my style power of three.

I've been doing a little bit of shopping here and there (though I'm waiting for my hips shrink a bit more before I do any major shopping).

Anyway, I was having a hard time pinpointing things I really loved and really wanted to buy. Sure I liked a lot of things, but I was bringing home things that didn't really align with my ultimate style goals. For instance, those birkenstocks I blogged about awhile back? Returned 'em. Cute, but too casual. And, actually not as comfortable as they should've been.

It was that pair of sandals that made me realize I needed to re-evaluate what I was looking for in my new pieces. I decided to pick THREE WORDS that defined my style. Then, if something was in alignment with those three words, it was probably a good style-choice for me.

My words:

Creative / Chic / Comfortable

Who hasn't felt overwhelmed when shopping? So many things, so little time, and so-no-idea where to start! Well, now I have my style check-list (which could easily change over time). It's an excellent starting point and I really recommend you try it! (And if you do try it, let me know your words... please? I'd love to know.)

My Time Tuesday!

One thing I did during my time this week was make a new pair of earrings, JUST FOR ME! I sat down with the intention of making something new, and something lovely, and most importantly... something just for me!

I don't do this nearly as often as I should. It's a great way to try out new things, and a great way to make sure I am making things I really love (because I wouldn't wear it if I didn't love it!). It's also a great way to advertise what I can make, and a great way to add to my personal jewelry collection!

I love the color combination. It's pretty, yet unique, and very Sylvia-esque.

Well, MY SHOP is now open.

It wasn't my original plan, but as we all know... things don't always go as planned! (Customers couldn't see my items/prices with my shop closed, and it was causing more trouble for everyone!)

I have learned a few things with motherhood, and one of them is most definitely flexibility.

So, with a two-week stamping turnaround time, I decided I could handle going full-throttle.

soft RE-opening!

On this glorious Monday morning, my baby girl is one month old. Also, on this Monday morning, I am here to announce my "soft re-opening."

Perhaps you have heard of a grand re-opening? But this, my friends, is a bit different.

This is a re-opening done by a mum who is a bit anxious about life with a small business and two small children. So, I am doing it my way: SOFTLY.

My etsy shop will remain closed, but you, my LOVELY friends, are welcome to submit your orders through me directly. This will give me a chance to get reacquainted with my creative business as I transition back to being a 'work at home mom.'

You can see most of my items here, in the SOLD category of my etsy shop. I will, of course, be up for your custom orders and new ideas.

My Birth Story

So... this is my story. If you were in the 1% (who voted in my poll) that did not want to read my labor/deliver story... avert your eyes! There will be terms used like: 'dilated' and 'contractions.' Ewww! I know!

Anyway... if you don't want to read my story.. no hard feelings! Just come back another day, and I will be talking about my creative life, or blabbing about my quest for personal style.

Our induction was scheduled for 6:00am on Friday morning, July 22nd. I was exactly 39 weeks, and was favorable for an induction (already dilated to 3+ cm). Also, my doctor was going out of town the following Monday (reason #2 for my induction), and also I had a fairly large first baby... so I was game for getting her out before she grew to monstrous proportions (reason #3 for scheduled induction). And, lastly, I had an induction at 41 weeks with Elias, and it went really, really well. So... I figured, 41 weeks + 39 weeks = 80 weeks total... which is enough pregnant time for me!

At 7:00am, the nurses started my pitocin and within about an hour I was having some fairly strong and regular contractions. At about 8:30am, my doctor came in and broke my water.

Very soon, the contractions became even more intense and I was in a pretty good amount of pain. By 10:30am I had my epidural and all was right with the world again.

Some time passed, and then the nurse checked my progress and said I was dilated to 8cm and that it wouldn't be too much longer.

Then, something fairly funny happened. The nurse didn't come back for a while.... and I was starting to feel a ton of pressure and pain in my southerlands.

I told Timmy I should probably call the nurse. But, get this: Timmy wasn't sure if we should bother her, because we had used our little 'call button' quite a few times prior to that. Excuse me???

About five minutes later I decided to disregard my husband entirely and I called for the nurse.

So, the nurse came in and was getting ready to check me... but with very wide eyes pulled out her phone instead. She let my doctor know I was very ready for her to come and deliver my baby.

While waiting for my doctor, I asked my nurse if she could just deliver my baby if 'push-came-to-shove' (no pun intended!) and she said that she could... but it would result in a lot of paper work.

Whhhhaaat?

It was a long 12 minutes later that my doctor finally arrived.

When I asked them to remind me of the "pushing procedure" (deep breath in, deep breath out then push for ten seconds, yada, yada...) my doctor said:

"honey, you could sneeze and she would come out."

Yikes!

Instead, I gave 1/2 a push, was instructed to shop pushing, and then I watched as my doctor slowly glided my baby out of me for me to see. Wow. It was a slow-motion, never forget it moment. At 1:49pm my 8lb 12oz Olive was born.

I was thrilled. I hate the pushing process (seem so barbaric to me)! And, most important of all, she was healthy and thriving!

So, that's my story. I left out a lot... But, I am glad to have shared it. Sorry it took me so long to write it. It takes a lot of brain power to share a story like this!

My Time Tuesday!

One of the things I did during 'my time'  this week was free write. I made a cup of coffee, sat down with a favorite notebook and pen, and began writing. I looooove to free write. It clears my mind and frees my soul. It reminds me of what I have and recharges me for what I want. It was a lovely 20+ minutes of writing.

Pardon the strange spacing of my photos, but these are the two things that I DID buy while on my shopping escapade this Saturday.... a new pair of MADE IN GERMANY birkenstocks, and a lovely new perfume!

It was a nice afternoon, with lots of people watching and one very delicious $5 (and 500 calorie) blended coffee beverage.

Yikes! The unfortunate thing was... just minutes after my beverage, when I started to try on clothes... I realized I really do NOT want to buy anything new until I shed these few extra post-baby pounds. And, despite the deliciousness of that said beverage, it seemed like a big step in the wrong direction. Oh, well. Live and learn, and then do some cardio, right?

Anyway, so I did NOT buy any new clothes, even though I am really in the mood for some new pieces. Soon! Hopefully, soon! Speaking of soon... did you know that H&M is FINALLY coming to Kansas City! My favorite store within minutes....Bliss!

my little sweetie is 3 weeks old today. and, just as i figured, i can hardly remember what life was like without her.

and my little man has had the opportunity to grow up a wee bit in the past few weeks.

i am so very excited for the weekend. i have plans of going to the mall BY MYSELF. this has not been done in a couple of years.... oh, the excitement! i have some birthday fun-money that is burning a whole in my wallet.

2.5 weeks postpartum, and the weight I have left to lose, is apparently not going to lose itself (like the first 20 pounds did).

After a week of forgetting to take pictures (and many days of not getting too prettied up), AND a morning and afternoon of wearing yoga-pants, I decided to get dressed for this evening!

It worked out well, because we had a big family outing this evening ... We went out for dinner and got Elias some new stride-rites (the best kid's shoes on the market!).

It was pleasantly uneventful (which is GREAT when you have a newborn and a two-year-old).

Anyway, I am hoping to do a better job of taking pictures for next week!

It was a good birthday. Timmy made me a cake, and Elias told me "happy birthday, mommy" all day long. What more can a girl ask for?

... and Olive kept the peace in her bouncy-seat.

For the record: the only time my two year old wants to have his picture taken is with me, when I am trying to pose for my wiww shots. Then, of course, he wants nothing more than to be in front of the camera.

So, yea, I have been MIA. And, it's because I have been sleepy. Very, sleepy. And when it comes down to choosing to blog or to nap, I will choose a nap almost every time. But, after a good dose of sleep, I will choose to blog! And, after a decent nap today, I am energized enough to blog tonight! So here I am: ta-da!

The good news is: the wheels {inside my head} are still turning, and I am churning out some pretty decent new ideas. One of them is a new idea for my blog and it's in the works right now!
One of the great things about a new circumstance is the new perspective you gain from it. That is, when your head isn't too foggy from lack of sleep. ;)

Timmy is back to work, and it's me at home with two young-kidlets. So far, so good. Not sure how or when I'll be up for squeezing in some jewelry work, but I'll worry about that another day.

Somebody LOVES his sister. About 90% of the time, anyway...

Hello friends!
I have about five minutes dedicated to stopping in here and saying hi to you.
Ready, go!

Please forgive my lack of visits to your blogs. I do miss you so. But, it's my sleep that I must admit to missing a smidge more!

Baby Olive goes back to sleep after her 6:00ish feeding, but Elias has felt the need to wake around 6:30 am for the past week. So... the nights are pretty short around here these days.

Timmy is at work today, though he will be home with us for the rest of this week. To be totally honest, it's a great thing. We could probably use a little break from each other. We're really not used to being together so much.

{earlier this week:}

timmy: "you're bossy."
me: "you're annoying."

That was the end of that, and I think we each felt much better after getting that off our chests. Ha!

Today is also a great opportunity for me to see that it won't be that difficult to be at home alone with the two kids by myself. It really is proving to be totally doable thus far!

NOW, here are some photos of my new-little-love-bug-angel-girl. Have I told you how thankful I am that she is here, and healthy, and perfect? God is good, and I am blessed.

Hemline is one of the {fabulous} Kansas City locations that sells Sylvia C. Jewelry. Well, I clicked over to the Hemline blog and was thrilled to see one of my bracelets being featured! It made my day!

Ok, so seeing super cute faces from my squirmy little newborn, Olive, has also made my day, but this was just icing on the cake.

It was so very refreshing to get to see myself in the outside world (if only in a blog post) while I am at home adjusting to our new life.

Sure, we venture out some... but for now I feel the adjustment is easier from the comfort of our air-conditioned home. Perhaps August will bring cooler temperature to the Kansas City area? Ha. I'm so funny.

I decided today would be an excellent day to show off the very last belly pictures I had taken of myself this pregnancy. This is me at 5:30am, before leaving for the hospital on Friday for our induction.

Perhaps next week I'll have a picture or two of myself postpartum. For now, I have the sleep-deprived/lack of time excuse. Not to mention the 'I'd like one more week for my postpartum belly to dissolve,' excuse.

Oh, yes, and here is what I wore in the hospital. Fabulous, no?

Things are going rather well with Olive (and big brother, Elias). I am getting to that sleep deprived state where I'm so tired, I'm not tired. This is when it gets silly. Soon, I'll have a minor breakdown, take a nap and start again anew.

My days are rather busy at this point. I am making every effort for Elias to NOT resent his sister for the time she is taking away from him. My etsy shop is closed, and my kids are my world. It's nice being able to focus so much attention on getting things readjusted.

And Olive... ? She is a real sweetie. She doesn't cry too much, and is pretty easy to read. She breastfeeds well, and sleeps pretty well, too. I haven't wanted to declare it too soon (for fear of jinxing ourselves), but I just have to say it: she's a pretty 'easy' baby. Thank you God, for answered prayers.

Hello pretty friends! Since Sylvia just had beautiful baby Olive, I thought we should take a path down memory lane. BTW: i'm Vic from Oh, Prettyful! I love sharing all things pretty and inspirational. I find that blogging is a great source to discovering yourself and finding the inner beauty in all. Twelve years ago, I became a mom. I had my first daughter 3 hours before my 19th birthday. I knew from the moment I graduated high school that I was going to be a mom and have a bond with my children that I didn't have with my mother. It was something I couldn't wait for and after falling in love with the boy who literally chased me down my senior year, I knew he was the one I wanted to be with forever, share babies with and explore this beautiful life God gave us.

I feel like the mama bird always protecting her young. Five years after having Mackenzie, I felt it was time to have another. I felt the instant bond all over again. I think each new birth is a feeling so powerful that only a mother can relate to. We were put here for a reason. To protect, nourish, bond, love and share something so deep that only we can truly understand, something words cannot explain. Motherhood is beyond amazing. It's the force of nature, the greatest of being, a true love that two hearts and souls collide together as one. When we diminish, we leave a never ending expansion of our fruits. Our lives will carry on through them always and our purpose will have been accomplished.

As a mother we have a hard time letting go. My babies are 12 and 7. I'm not having anymore. I've enjoyed the beginning years and am really excited about the future, watching them in jr. high school and where this life will lead. For all these years, I've barely let my children roam. I've kept them close to me and have protected them from the sometimes outside crazy world. But it's time to let loose. To let them experience the world and have faith that everything I've taught them will come into play when they need it most.

If anyone can relate to the motherly powers, it's each mother who shares the same morals, values, beliefs and passions we have for our children. The love we have for them and at times the chaos of spilling bottles, puke reeking clothes, poopy diapers, laudry piled to the ceiling and messy countertops. We can share those experiences, laugh, cry and support one another because if anything, we as mothers need friends, need to laugh, need to cry when things are crazy and we so need to relate.

This is our new baby, Olive, fresh from her first bath.
I love her full head of black hair. It really throws me for a loop, being semi-blonde and all...

This is Olive getting ready to come home. We only stayed one night in the hospital, which was great! And, it's really great that I didn't have a panic attack when we put her in the car seat.

So far, being a new mom the second time around has been MUCH easier. (Other than the 'also taking care of a two-year-old' thing.)

Elias likes her quite a bit. He's only just now started the "I wanna take her back" talk, which was to be expected. ;)

Tomorrow starts a new week, but I'm actually in the stage where I see life in two-three hours increments. (Olive is nursing well, which means I am her sole-food-provider.)

I just had a few spare minutes and wanted to share these photos! She is literally the new JOY in my life. I am so very happy she is here.

Last night I had this idea for a fashion post, so ... what do you think of the hat? Is it me, or not? Does it bring out my eyes? Does it make my butt look big? Is it trendy or just plain stylish? But most important of all, why am I making sexy eyes with a dog-hat on my head?

So, tomorrow is the big day. It's baby day! Our scheduled induction is at 6:00 tomorrow morning. I will FINALLY get to lay eyes on my little girl.... and I feel all fluttery when I think about it! Then, we can close down this baby making factory. Whew.

So, what am I doing in these last days before my new bundle arrives? Nesting? Cleaning? Naw. I'm playing with my new iphone app {that I am absolutely in love with!}.

It's called My Style Fashion Assistant, and it is not for the faint of heart. It requires you take photos of your ENTIRE wardrobe. But, from there... you can have your closet with you wherever you go. I am so excited to try it out. I've started taking some photos of items in my closet today {all NON-maternity, of course!}. It is quite a task, but I like the idea of this mini-hobby, because I am on maternity-leave, ya know.

Anyway, it's a really neat app if you want to make the most of your wardrobe and build it in the right direction.

what i wore (last pregnant edition!)

38.5 weeks pregnant.

I wanted to title this post 'to thine own self be true" because I have recently decided I love to wear two colors. Blue in my shirts, and  pink on my face (blush and lip-gloss). I've been wearing lots of blue lately because I have three maternity tank tops that are blue and still fit me. It's come to my attention that I like the way the it brings out the blue in my eyes.

And for the pink blush and lips? It just looks fresh. I can also do a nude lip, but anything darker than pink ...and I look (or feel) like I have hooker lips. Sorry, but it's true.

So, sometimes being limited in your wardrobe really does lead to some realizations. It makes me wonder if I'll ever be up for Kendi's 30 for 30 remix. Maybe someday...

Thanks so much for writing. I am excited for you! In fact, I can actually relate to you and your situation. While I've loved style and shopping for some time now, I've re-focused my efforts a bit lately.

I've always had plenty of basics, but I recently realized that my wardrobe could really benefit from more personality! I now love buying pieces that really accentuate my personality and lifestyle.

So, while a girl should always be on the look out for some great 'basics' (such as camisoles, great fitting jeans, white/black tees, and the like), there are other things to keep an eye out for if you want to begin developing a style of your own.

I encourage you to go shopping for pieces that excite you and speak to you. For instance dresses with a unique print or cut. Or, skirts that fit your body so well, you don't ever want to take it off!

Be open to new styles that you have never thought to seek out before. While magazines are great for inspiration, so are style blogs!

Blogs are great because they showcase real ladies with real budgets. For example, I love Kendi Everyday. {She has close to 9,000 followers... so she's slightly popular.}

First and foremost, you should always start with your own closet. Go through and find all the pieces you love and decipher what it is you love about them. Use those pieces as a starting point. Fashion is really quite simple: tops and bottoms (or dresses). But there's so much room for creativity and personality! Have fun!

It was a beautiful, scorching hot Saturday morning. We decided to head to the city and pick up some fresh bread from a super cool bakery.

The owner of bakery studied in France and he really knows his bread. I appreciate his knowledge and expertise. Every single bite of it.

It was a very pretty morning... picturesque, really. Except for the extremely cranky nature of our two year old. Yikes. It was ugly. How could a morning so beautiful, turn so ugly? Two words: tired and hungry. That's all it takes to set my finicky boy off. I'm happy to report all is much better after his nap.

In other exiting news, the husby and I are heading off on our last date forever...umm, I mean for a long time. He talked me into seeing Harry Potter. I'm not sure if I'm so happy about this being our last date, but I do recall a recent date of ours being shopping, and I sure he wasn't too thrilled with that.

A quick visit over at Kendra's shop, AdornMeGirl, always has me swooning. My most recent perusing (last night) had me drooling over THIS belt, which is just so romantically chic. Check it out to see some other great pics of the product, and see how great Kendra looks when she wears it. This will be one of my first post-preggo purchases! Love, love, love it!

[And just so you know, this is a totally free-will product post. I just find her items to be so fabulous, I have to share them with you!!!]

The tricky thing is... which colors to choose? I adore the way it looks here, but she also offers the belt in white or black elastic, and also offers various colors for the flower. A black elastic belt with a black flower would be super chic and handy to add to an outfit. Ahhh! Decisions! What do you think would be a versatile option?

So, a few months ago I blogged about my new pair of TOMS (you can see that post HERE) . And here I am ... yet again... blogging about my new TOMS.

Yes, that would be another NEW pair. Hey, what can I say? There are lots of kids around the world that need new shoes. (Surely you know about TOMS one-for-one policy? {With every pair you purchase TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need.}

Anyway, I have been in love with these pink linen shoes since the moment I laid my eyes on them. And, because I rarely wear tennis shoes, this style of shoe is great for me to go on walks, and do my daily mom-like tasks.

I have a very important blog post I need to be writing... a very important 'ask sylvia' style question has come my way.

But, I just had to share these shoes with you! So, I am hoping to feature the 'ask sylvia' question next week. {Because I probably won't get it done by tomorrow, and hardly anybody visits blogs on the weekend... Why IS that?}

So, keep an eye out for that new style question post next week. That is, unless I have my baby this weekend. My doctor appointment today showed that my body is progressing quite well! Either way.... baby #2 will be in my arms so very soon!

Almost 38 weeks pregnant.

I love this look. I find it to be especially unique {for maternity style}, and so I decided to share a few pictures from this 'photo shoot.' It's extremely comfortable and yet cool enough to wear out today (it's over 100 degrees)!

The countdown is on... I will meet my baby girl in 9 days or less! She is welcome to come any day after today. I don't really care for the 13th as a birth-date. :)

my heart went out on a jet-ski

Have you ever heard the saying that once you have kids, it's like having your heart walk around outside of your body? Well, here is my heart (in the middle), on a jet ski.

Aunt Monika and Grandma Elke took him for a spin...

The first 5 minutes of him being gone on the lake (without me, his mother), were okay. Around minute SIX is where I began to freak out, imaging the worst, and praying for his return.

It was around 8 minutes later (total) that he returned. Elias, of course, had a blast and wanted to go for another ride. Me, his mother, decided that was enough fun for one day.

I am mostly writing today to say THANK YOU for all of the lovely comments yesterday. I really do appreciate you listening to me, and throwing me the mini-pity-party I barely deserved.

Today, is in fact, much better.

I've been productive and looking on the bright side of things. I hope your day has been great, too.

And, today starts my official countdown... only TEN days (or less!) until I get to meet my baby girl. I am bubbling with JOY at the very thought...

These boys love each other like brothers. That means it can get ugly at times. But, oftentimes... they are just plain funny.

Hello, Friends!

Whew, this summer heat has me beat. If you throw in the mix my temperamental two year old and my busy jewelry business, you have one tired pregnant lady.

I am planning on closing my etsy shop this Friday. So, if you have anything you have to have from Sylvia C. Jewelry... get it now! Some items are already missing from my shop, because of my poop-poor job of keeping the proper supplies in my inventory. What can I say... things are busy!

Shhh.... don't tell a soul.... But, I'm really quite excited to be on "maternity leave." The position I sit in when doing my stamping has really been hurting my back lately. Also, the stress of emails and rush orders is about to make me bananas! So, I welcome a break with arms wide open.

Of course, it's laughable to think of an actual break. Squatting down to give baths and change diapers is sure to set me into labor early this time around... I have a feeling anyway. We'll see if I'm right.

You know, I prefer not to complain, but while I'm at it.. can I just tell you: our dishwasher broke. And, that cyst that I went to have drained on my neck today? It wasn't the drain-able type. It can only be removed via surgery, in which they might have to take some of my thyroid. Um, thanks but no thanks.

And, BONUS! It only took me 4 hours of waiting around a hospital to figure all that out today.

So, it's been one of those days. Over 100˚ and I think Elias ran into something, or smooshed his fingers on something about 10-12 times today. OY! It's time to pull the covers over my head and try again tomorrow.

It's a great thing that I'm an optimist, and truly do believe tomorrow will be better!

Customers always inspire the greatest NEW creations. This new piece was inspired by Kim. She even did a lovely write-up about it. And, her product photo is absolutely stunning! I love it!

I hope your Friday has been better than mine. I got stabbed in the neck-- twice. Okay, okay, it was by a doctor... with a needle, but it was an icky feeling nonetheless.

My problematic thyroid has decided to give me a bit of heck before my sweet baby girl arrives, so I am trying to get it taken care of as soon as possible. The doctor's attempts today failed (he was trying to drain a cyst), so I have to go to an outpatient dealio this Monday.

Life will go on, and I am happy they could get me in so soon.

Tomorrow will be a very busy day, as our German family comes into town to spend their last 24 hours in America with us. They will fly out Sunday morning.

We have a busy day planned. We'll start with coffee and cake at our house. Then, we'll take them for a tour of Boulevard (where Timmy works), and then we'll do some shopping and sight-seeing on The Plaza. The lovely day will end at our house, with a grand feast of steak, potatoes, and salad. Quite American, no?

I will, all the while, attempt not to give birth while they are here. ;)

before & after {living room re-vamp}

My living room had colors of purple and green. It was pretty, but the rug was wool and always felt too warm, ESPECIALLY in the spring and summer time.

As I said before, you can chalk this up to nesting, but really this is fairly normal for me. I like to switch things out every few months. It was time!

I decided to switch over to a woven cotton rug. And my new color is scheme is blue.  Lots of blue and some orange. And some other colors... but mostly blue and orange.

Here are some of my favorite accents: a new metal wall art piece. 
.... and three photos books full of Elias' first two years of life.

These blocks are a very special addition to me. It's my new theme: RELAX.
I'm not very good at it, but I'm trying. And I really like where it's taking me.

And this piece is just plain fun. and it has both blues and oranges. Love.

After a great 37 week doctor appointment yesterday, I am feeling very positive about these last couple (?) of weeks of pregnancy. My body is progressing really well, and I am gonna have a baby soon!

getting real ~ what i wore

Approaching 37 weeks.

Before yesterday I had no pictures of myself to share this week. So, yesterday (Tuesday) I was determined to take a photo. I didn't want to get too gussied up; I wanted to keep it real.

So, here is a very real outfit from my week. I am at that point of pregnancy where I check my calendar every day to see just how close I am getting. It's hot, and I have a two year old. I still feel pretty good, but get exhausted pretty easily. My day goes something like this:

do something productive. sit down and rest.
do something productive. sit down and rest.
do something productive. sit down and rest.

You are smart people. I think you get the point.

domestic bliss

truth be told, I am always in search of a little domestic bliss.

sometimes, all is takes is a pink-giraffe broom to make sweeping a bit more enjoyable. and, i have to face the facts.... even though i prefer my type-b antics to my type-a ones, i do feel a bit frazzled when my house is in disarray.

other little touches of domestic goodness include pretty tea towels, method hand soap, and candles. oh, how i love candles.

as i write this, my child is still sleeping and I am waiting to do the horrendous pile of dishes, which our mini fourth of july party has left me.

this is one of the first times {in the history of ever} that i am up before my little one. he had a terrible time sleeping with all of the festive fireworks, and so i'm hopeful he's getting the sleep he needs now.

i hope your holiday weekend has left you rested and rejuvenated. i am excited that the new week already has us so close to wednesday. i have three more scheduled, weekly doctor appointments before i meet my baby girl. time is just tick-tick-ticking away!

Yum, Yum... I could just gobble this outfit up! I created it with a cool summer night in mind (cool enough to wear jeans, anyway). And because I know not everyone is super comfortable in heels, I chose two different shoes to go with the look. I love flats OR heels with skinny jeans.

We are three days into July and I am getting really excited about dressing my non pregnant body soon. I feel like my belly has developed a personality of it's own, and I look forward to taking all that personality back for myself.

It has been a lovely weekend around our house so far. It's been relaxing and yet not too lazy (a perfect combination in my busy-body-book). Relax is my new word, and I'll show you what inspired me in an upcoming post! It's the new theme for my living room.

oh, snap.

As I mentioned before, being away from my shop helps me get a new perspective. This time away, helped me to realize I would like to now offer sterling silver tiny ball chains as an option for my necklaces.

So, now, each sterling silver necklace can be purchased on a 16" or 18" chain in a tiny but delicate ball chain, or beautiful and delicate box chain (both in solid sterling silver). I love them both, so I am pleased to offer them both!

Oh, and I wanted to mention...sometimes... when there is a really bad storm, and a really big tree falls on your neighbors car... (and on other important stuff), you lose electricity and internet. Sometimes. So, please pardon my absence!

It' Friday and it's July. The month has officially arrived when I will meet my new baby! Soon, this blog will have photos of my newborn, and will be tear-stained with sleep-deprivation. Can you hardly wait?

I have been nesting like a mad woman. I have also hit my crazy 'need to rearrange phase' and am hoping to show some photos of that. I can't really blame that on pregnancy, because I do it every few months regardless!

Something's gotta give. (don't worry, it's usually the household stuff. ;)

I’m Back…

...and better (and bigger) than before! I’m 35 weeks pregnant and am now semi-firmly planted in the Kansas City area until the arrival of our sweet baby girl.

We had a lovely time with our German family and almost felt jet-lagged when we returned home last night. (Although, we were only three hours away in our home-town.)

I was super ambitious this morning, getting laundry started, a grocery list started, and a shower was even in my future…. But the electricity suddenly went out. (Apparently there was a bad storm last night, but all three of us were too tired to notice or care!)

Anyway we’ve spent the entire day without electricity {over 12 hours to be exact} and I kept on forgetting how handy that stuff {electricity} really is. So, I had to write this post in Word and transferred it to blogger!

Unfortunately for my mom and her company, they have been without electricity since last night. So, there’s a house full of coffee drinkers, who have not had any coffee. Scary stuff! ;)

It was really lovely to be around so many people for a full week (the life of a work at home mom is a fairly secluded one). And, my husband and I both agreed, it was almost MORE German practice than ever because we were helping translate. We loved it!

It’s nice to be home, and it’s nice to be back. The time away from my jewelry stuff really helps inspire some new ideas. That always happens. It truly is helpful to step away!

I had a customer contact me last week, who was getting ready to embark on a very exciting journey with her husband. They were getting ready to do their egg retrieval for IVF. She wanted a new piece of jewelry to keep her inspired and hopeful. Together, we brainstormed this creation.

I hope this beautiful reminder helps her through this time. I am always so honored when I feel a part of something special like this. I love my customers, and I love my *job*!

34 weeks pregnant.

I was so super comfortable in this maxi dress. And when I went out shopping for a dress to wear at 34 weeks pregnant to a wedding, I knew I was going to want something long. It was perfect! I am hopeful that I will be able to wear this (non-maternity) dress after I am pregnant, too. I have the perfect thick gray belt that I hope to pair with it.

I'm outta town this week, so this is all I have to share. But, this excursion was a good reminder that sometimes one amazing piece is all you need to buy to make an outfit great.

new somethin' & part of the family

A few weeks ago I worked with a lovely customer to create these custom bridesmaids gifts. It was a really fun new direction, and they turned out so lovely.

I am hoping to add these to my shop soon (after I return from my week away)!

[See, you can't even tell I'm not here. It feels like I'm here, and it looks like I'm here, but really this is just my blogger-robot posting for me while I'm away.]

There are just so many possibilities with customization of color and personalization with stamping.

When I get back from our week away, I will have a few more weeks of running my shop and then I will be shutting down again for a while. My baby Olive will be here so soon!

And, then, I will be doing a lot more 'mom-ing' and a lot less 'working-at-homing.' :)

Secondly for today, I'd like to introduce you to a very special family member: Calvin, our schnoodle.

Up to this point, Calvin has been the best sibling Elias could've ever wanted. After a rough fall, or a cranky wake-up, Calvin is always there to cheer Elias up. Of course, Elias will have a new sibling in July, but he might always prefer his "Calvie."

This dog has so much personality... I can't imagine our home without him.

my big, lovely, German family

My mom has 11 brothers and sisters. In this big, German family there are six boys, and six girls. Here's the most recent picture I have of 10 of them (two siblings were absent on this day).

So, with 11 brothers and sisters... and all of them married, that means I have 22 aunts and uncles in Germany. (So, of course that means I have way lots of cousins. Sorry, I don't have that number tallied right now.) It's a beautiful thing to have so much family.

The tricky thing is how little we get to see them, because of the distance which separates us. I've spent a good many summer months in Germany visiting them. It's such a pleasure to have a handful of them coming this way this year! My mom celebrated her 50th birthday this May, so that is part of their reason for coming.

Yesterday, we went to the airport and picked up eight of my aunts and uncles. They will be staying with my mom for three weeks. Timmy, Elias, and I are taking off a week to spend with them.

So there's {a little bit of} the story behind my big, lovely, German family, and the story behind where I'll be this week.

I hope you enjoy the posts I have lined up! It's taken a lot of thought, but somehow or another, I've written up DAILY posts for you to enjoy while I'm away.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm one of those gals that married a good guy, who became an even more amazing guy when he became a daddy.

Watching my husband become a dad has been one of the coolest things I've ever seen. My boys play rough together, and studies say that is a good thing. Hmmm.... We'll see about this. ;)

And in about a month... I'll get to see him hold {and love} our baby girl. The idea gives me goosebumps! The love just keeps growing.

Happy Father's day to all the amazing dads that make the world such a great place. I hope your day is filed with love, and fun, and relaxation.

I'm always preaching about how accessories can change an outfit. Well, I am back, with my soapbox.

I fell in love with this scarf as soon as I saw it at Hemline this week. It's actually a long scarf that I tied a bit shorter (to look more summery) and to be looser around the neck. I love how a simple scarf can transform an outfit... and my mood!

I wore my new scarf with a plain white tank. The outfit was rather boring. White tank. Long flowy tan skirt. (At 34 weeks pregnant, these are the things that fit, people). But, when I added my new scarf *SNAP* something magical happened. The outfit became mine. And that is a beautiful thing.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm not really that into fashion. I mean... it's fun, and frivolous, but it's fickle.

I don't think I'll ever have the desire to spend enough money to stay on top of fashion. But, personal style? That, I love.

Finding a piece that calls out to me, and speaks my name is such a glorious feeling. Then, adding it to my wardrobe and knowing I will wear it with confidence and feel authentically me while doing it, makes me giddy.

I also don't have to worry if what I am wearing is "in-fashion" because it doesn't matter. If it's my style, then I feel great allowing my personality, passions, and lifestyle to take the reigns.

what i wore (and why)

i only took one picture this week (33 weeks pregnant). so, instead of filling up the post with pictures, i'll share with you why i loved this outfit.

the tank was long and fitted. i like shirts that show off my curves (there's a lot of curves to show at this point!). but, i also think it's imperative that shirts be long enough. the quickest way to an unflattering look is a shirt that's too short. this goes whether pregnant or not.

the skirt had a pattern. if it weren't for the skirt's plaid pattern, this look would've been a bit mundane. The ruffles helped, too.

layers. ok, so it's just my favorite vest that i wore last week, but a little layering goes a long way to looking put together.

and there you have it, those are the reasons i loved this look!

i am loving rosey colors. and, i am loving floral prints! so, i threw this outfit together and wanted to share. it also has a very mature vibe that i absolutely love. i would much rather look 90 than 9. ;)

this shirt would require a strapless bra... would you automatically nix it for this reason? if so, you're going to miss out on a ton of great summer shirts. but, comfort is important too. hmmmm... decisions, decisions.

my boys

we loaded up the wagon and walked to the park this evening. a fun time was had by all. and i am so in love with this photo i captured of my boys. i love how great my i-phone pictures are. (no one really wants to tote a camera around with them. but a phone? that's much easier.) and when i can instantly instagram it... perfection!

the week ahead will be busy! we have a wedding to get ready for this weekend, and we will be out of town all of next week to spend time with my german family. eight family members are flying in to stay with my mom for a few weeks. we are so excited to see them and get to spend a week with them. we've been practicing our german (but never as much as we "ought" to), and speaking to elias in german (some) too.

it will be nice to be around SO many people for a solid week. (the biggest pitfall of being a work-at-home mom is definitely the solitude!)

so....not this week, but next, my shop will be closed, and i will be away from interest access. i'm gonna try and get some posts scheduled so you won't die of boredom while i'm away.

Sure, you've heard of a to do list, but have you ever tried making a to-do(ne) list?

Every once in a while, I like to take pride in my daily accomplishments and write a to-done list.

Sure, it sounds sorta like an ignorant made-up concept (it does?!?!), but in the scheme of things it helps me see what I've been up to. Plus, I really wanted to try out the new notepad picture {above} that I found at shabbyblogs. I am still using GIMP for my picture-editing. It's free and fairly simple. Someday I might try to learn photoshop.

EEEEEK! I was featured on Momma Go Round as a Real Momma with Real Style. And the real kicker... it was my bikini pose that made the post! The lovely Nina asked my permission of course. Many thanks to her for being so supportive of my bold move.

32.5 weeks pregnant, and in a bikini. Oh, yes... I did.

Pre-pregnancy I am about a size 8 or 10. So, I thought I would keep it real and show a swimwear 'what i wore.'

 There is something kinda neat about this big 'ol belly that is only getting bigger. So strange to think that it will be gone in a handful of months. I do believe this is our last baby, so capturing a bikini picture felt good.

I hadn't originally planned on sharing it, but it's kinda liberating to do so. Especially after yesterday, when I realized my ankles have vanished. If you happen to find them, please let me know.

what's driving you?

I am currently reading Rick Warren's "The Purpose Driven Life." I found the above quote in his book, and it really clicked.

I typically gravitate towards books written by women (how sexist of me, right?). But, this book seemed to call out to me, so I just went with it.

I'm only a few chapters into the book but one of the first questions asked is 'what drives you?' He lists many {negative} things that drive people.... materialism, guilt, fear, etc.

And the goal, of course, is a life that is driven by purpose. Not peer approval or a 'desire' for money or power, or anything else really.

Being someone who loves creativity, loves helping women with style, and loves having my own business (both to nurture my creativity, and help support our family) ...I often find myself with so much to do and so little time.

With each day I get busier, and with each day it becomes more important for me to ask myself, what's driving me? Getting my thoughts and passions in focus is vital. Especially with a new baby on the way.

while waiting in line, the man behind me said "you must be an artist..."

Hmmm.. my initial thought was... well, yea, I have a flower in my hair...

Nope. He proceeds to say... "you have big feet. artist's usually have big feet."

HA! It's a good thing I have a healthy sense of humor and I don't take my size 11 feet too seriously.

happy sunday! today has been a very busy day in my household. We have visitors coming in for dinner and to stay the night. I am soooo excited to see this friend!

also, there is no better way to make your house clean than to have visitors. am i right, or am i right?

there are still a few items on my to-do list, but with a belly like mine, i work in intervals. my sit-down work (aka- replying to emails, blogging, making jewelry) is warmly welcomed after being on my feet.

unfortunately, i am getting to the point where sitting down is almost not really that comfortable. which leaves... laying down. and very, very little gets accomplished while laying down.

so, up i go... back at it. a dirty toilet and sink beckons me!

The good news is...I got these fun new sandals at Target yesterday for $12.99 (regular price!).

The bad news is... I have some sort of stomach bug.

Elias had it two days ago. Timmy had it yesterday. And, lo and behold, today it is my turn.

It's really no fun, because I have no appetite. That can really bum a pregnant chick. It's not a terrible bug, but it's no fun anyway.

I have lots of jewelry-making to do, so I better kick it quickly!

I love the color blue. So, I've been able to wear these $3 earrings (from Forever 21) a bunch! They're big and bold, and definitely make a statement.

I just found your blog today  and love it!  I'm due with my third son just a few weeks after your  daughter is due-I love how cute your maternity style is, mine has been  totally nonexistent since my belly made an appearance.

I live in the  south and it is already 90-100 degrees each day...the heat and my pregnancy do not get along.  That, along with chasing after two boys (ages 2  & 4), makes it hard for me to figure out exactly what to wear to  look stylish, stay cool, and still be able to chase the kids around. I  know I should  accessorize but honestly I never  think about it until I see someone else looking so "put together."  Any  suggestions for me?

Dear Melissa,
Thanks so much for writing! This question is perfect, because I am getting ready to embark on 90-100 degree temperatures myself. I will also be facing these last 8 weeks of my pregnancy in this kind of heat (Kansas City style)!

When it's this hot, you're not going to want to wear a lot of layers (or any layers at all, perhaps!). So, it's all about choosing at least one very pretty piece for your dressing.

For instance, if you are wearing a very basic tank (because that's all that fits!), then a pretty skirt will be the perfect touch of style to set you apart. I've been loving floral print skirts with elastic waistbands. (I'm actually hoping that they still fit after baby arrives!)

Or, if you have a basic skirt, then a fun print or pattern on your tank will help you feel more 'styled.' Try and make one part of your (simple, yet cool) outfit make some sort of statement.

Dresses are, of course, a very easy way to make a statement, and you only have to choose ONE piece. Long (maxi) dresses are very 'in' right now, and should wear well with children.

Shoes are another great way to help you feel put together. Investing in a great comfortable summer sandal will really pay off. Choose a pair you really love (and makes you feel fabulous!) and can wear the same pair every day, all summer.

Also, you are oh-so-very right. Accessories are the easiest (and can be the cheapest) way to bring a boring outfit to life.

So, let's just say your outfit is lacking. This is the most dire time to add some accessories!

For instance: an arm full of bangles with an otherwise plain outfit could bring the whole look to life. Or, try a long bohemian necklace. That's a great way to 'layer' without adding any heat to your look! In the heat, it's important to be clever with your layers. A jacket over your tank is simply not going to work.

If you're a babe on a budget, you can't ignore the great prices for accessories at Forever 21. It's amazing what you can walk out of there with, and only spend $25. In fact, I see accessories all over the place at great prices... bangles at gas stations, large earrings at target, the list goes on and on. I guess you can say, seek and ye shall find! And the best part of accessories... they should all still FIT after baby arrives!

If you are unsure if you can 'pull off' a bold accessory choice, start with a color you love. Let's say you wear a lot of greens. Then find a pair of big earrings with green in them. You have to start somewhere!

good bread = good date.

This long weekend has been nice! Timmy and I had nice little date night on Saturday. It wasn't much more than a lovely dinner together, with good food and good conversation. But, best of all there was good bread. Oh, how I love good bread!

And, it's been a really productive weekend for baby-readiness! All of Olive's 0-12 month clothes have now been washed and sorted. (Nope, they are not yet put away, but that takes strategy and time, and I haven't had either!)

I plan to store the rest of her clothes that are 12+ months. YES, I have lots of clothes that are bigger than 12 months. What's a thriftaholic to do when she spies the cutest clothes for a dollar or less? Snag them and store them, of course!

Elias is just now napping and it's 4:41pm. He refused his nap earlier today, but has been actn' a fool ever since. I refuse to spend the rest of my evening with a monster, so he will nap for a bit now.

... and, so, I now have just enough time to blog, order a few jewelry supplies, and print a couple of shipping labels.

Then it's back the the motherhood grind!

today's jewelry feature: a swarovski blue opal wrapped necklace. this stunning pendant hangs on a long curb chain and is available in gold or silver.  i love this creation, and i will be adding one to my personal collection soon. i just have to decide what color i want...

today's cute little boy feature: my 'lil artist man, Elias (age 2). he LOVES watercolor paints. and i love that his little dalmatian buddy is painting with him!

I put this outfit together on polyvore a few days ago. It's a simple ensemble that I would wear on a 'regular' day here around the neighborhood, but also can see it working well as a special occasion outfit. I also love how the necklace transforms the top from blah-to-bam. Sometimes it's as easy as that!

Other than some serious third trimester sleepiness, things have been great around here!

Yesterday was a beautiful day and we spent many hours outside enjoying it! Spending time in the great outdoors... (aka our yard or our deck) ...cannot be under-appreciated when you are a mum at home with your kid. Fresh air and fresh space? Magnificent!

haircut! {before & after}

The tricky thing about before & after pictures... is that you have to remember to take 'the before' shot! Sure, 'the after' is always exciting and easy to remember to do... but 'the before' is the sneaky part. If you forget to do it, there is little that can be done to turn back the hands of time to get a picture.

ALAS! I did, in fact, remember to take a 'before' picture. So, enough jibber-jabber. I tried not to smile too big for 'the before' because everyone knows 'the before' picture should be more sad and pathetic than 'the after.'

Soooo.... I was getting REALLY tired of my i-phone mirror pictures. {I'm sure I'm not alone!} So, this week I hired a new guy.

Well, the rookie needs some serious training. (I'm talking about the other 300 pictures that aren't shown here!)

How does one not see that the sun is making weird shadows on the subject's belly? ...Or that HALF of the pictures taken display the obnoxious OWL that is perched on the deck to keep woodpeckers away? (The owl has been cropped, thank you very much.)

Anyway, I am gracious that my husband has been up for the challenge. But... would I run willingly into the arms of a more experienced photographer should I get the chance? Um, yea, without hesitation.

Now for the mini-segment that you should be expecting... Arrrgggg! Getting dressed is GETTING DIFFICULT! A good many pregnant ladies live in sweats and t-shirts. Well, not this momma. Seven months down, and two to go. THEN... two more to get back to my pre-preggy size (that's my goal, anyway). Okay, just had to get that out!

tuesday inspiration? {yes please!}

In an effort to add some inspiration in my work-space... I made this pretty 'vision-board.' I had the cork board on hand, and I added some designer fabric to beautify the look. I plan to add images which inspire.

Whew! I'll tell you who is in need of some inspiration... ME! It's been a long day here in the Sylvia C. household. I woke up this morning feeling like my legs weighed a thousand pounds {each}. And, my overall energy levels have been negative forty-six.

I am now minutes away from my big decision of the day... Once I put Elias down for a nap... do I:

A.) go downstairs and work
B.) take a nap, also

If I work, I might still be super tired, but perhaps creatively invigorated. If I nap, I might feel jipped out of my 'me time' that I so love and crave.

These are the decisions of a pregnant work-at-home mom. {Now you know.}

 These pink opal earrings are now in my shop!

Most of my weekend was spent getting new things photographed and in my etsy shop. Product photography is a VERY time consuming thing. If you have an online shop... you know what I'm talking about! But, there is something very rewarding about seeing an item you've made look really good as a photograph.

{My Monday}

...is shaping up quite nicely. I got a good night's sleep last night (this sort of this is especially great when you are 7 months pregnant). So, that makes the week off to a good start. And, it's nap time here now (for Elias), and me not napping is yet another good sign!

Elias and I hit up a park this morning with a mom's group that I am a part of. There were toddlers and pregnant mommas EVERYWHERE this morning, so we fit in quite nicely. ;)

My heart is aching today for the people of Joplin, Missouri. I grew up in Missouri {and am a Missouri girl at heart}. I can not imagine what it would be like to lose my home and so much of my community to a natural disaster like that.

I have been praying for the people of Joplin, and hope you will too.

Softball season starts tonight! My husband's work has a league that we are a part of. Well, er... I was a part of. I played one year. Then I was pregnant the next. Then, I had a newborn and played a little. Then, I had a one year old, who ONLY wanted his momma. Now, I am pregnant again. Jeez lady, quit being so unavailable for your team!

Next year, I plan to play. This year Elias and I will just go and watch (when we have an early game!) Tonight's game is at 8:30pm, so we will be staying home. Boo.

So, I guess the overall synopsis for 'my monday' is that I am rather chatty. Drop me a line if you wanna visit, Lord knows I love some company!

feather lady

I have been OBSESSED with getting a feather hair clip made. I've seen them in magazines. I've seen them in stores. I simply HAD to make a few of my own!

I ordered some feathers online at the beginning of the week, then realized today that I could probably get enough start up stuff from a local hobby store.

Within minutes of arriving home from the store I was able to create the design that has been looming in my mind all week.

WHEW... what a relief. I've had feathers on the brain, and now I can finally take a breath... with a feather in my hair.

I plan on adding these to my shop soon, too!

On Monday I talked about how the new week felt very beautiful and full of possibility. One of the things that had me so excited is my new collection of charm necklaces. This post features a few of the little beauties that I just had to share.

I make all of these necklaces on long delicate curb chains, which hang about 27."

I've already taken a few of these into one of my local Kansas City {brick and mortar} shops, and I am hoping to add them to my etsy shop soon.

This collection embodies a feeling of romantic simplicity that I absolutely love.

In no particular order.... here are some outfits (and accessories) from my week. While I do have a lot to share from the week, I have to be honest and say that getting dressed in 'clothes I love' is getting harder and harder as my belly grows bigger and bigger. This Friday I will be 30 weeks pregnant. That simply leaves the home-stretch!

Just had to share this picture because from the front it's hard to tell I'm pregnant, and then from the side....

...BAM! It's quite obvious. The outfit is rather plain, except for the lovely scarf I'm wearing which is from Kohls. I love, love, love a pretty scarf. The weather here lately has been strangely cold, so I had to dig out a long sleeve shirt (that still fits me). Also, the boots {shown below} are pretty rad, too. So, the outfit 'worked' in my opinion. Not to mention, I am pretty sure all Elias and I did on this particular day was go to the park in the morning, and play outside in the afternoon. Yeah, I would say it worked.

I purchased these when in San Fransisco last year. Every time I look at these boots, I lovingly recall all the amazing fashion I saw while I was there...

I got to see some of my best buddies from high-school this weekend. I wore this frilly {thrifted} shirt-dress. And a BIG pair of earrings from Forever 21.

I also wore this super fun bracelet, which I purchased from one of the shops that sells my jewelry, Encore.

it's pretty, no? Encore has some really great statement jewelry!

And, lastly, I wanted to show off my new ivory satchel i picked up from Marshalls a couple of weeks ago. I love how it is structured, and yet so pretty.

Dear Sylvia,
I am a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom and am in a fashion rut! I have always had a simple, classic style, while dabbling slightly in trends with an accessory or two when I'm brave.

Since having two girls and being on a tight budget, I haven't spent much time on "style" and heading into my 40th year would love a change! A downfall of mine is that I doubt myself when
deciding what looks good. Let's just say, I don't feel like I have a knack for style!

What are some tips you have for dressing comfortably for my job as mom, while looking stylish? (I sometimes see photography clients at night, so an all-in-one outfit for the day would be good!)

Thanks so much for writing. I think yours is a question A LOT of mommas can relate to.

As this fabulous occasion arises (the big 4-0), I think it’s time for you to make some time to decide what types of clothes you LOVE. It sounds like you have a pretty good feel for basic pieces that look good on you. But perhaps it’s time to really decide what makes you feel really authentically-YOU.

I think you could benefit from a little in-closet evaluation. What pieces do you have that make you feel great? What items do you turn to time and time again, but do not really love? What keeps you coming back to your tried and true pieces? Comfort? Fit? Style?

Also, while you’re at it--- pick up a fashion magazine or two (People StyleWatch and InStyle are two of my favorites). What pieces do you ‘wish’ you could wear? What items speak to you? There is so much that can be taken away as inspiration! And, If classic pieces are your thing… that’s OK. Not everyone has to be a trend-monger.

Also... I think it's great that you are up for wearing the same thing during the day that you also can wear in the evening. I think every day is a new reason to look your best.... no matter what's on the agenda! I tend to layer jackets or cardigans when I have a full-day of events planned. Being able to shed or add a layer really helps from having to change throughout the day.

Once again, I am going to have to bring out the ‘fake it till you make it’ phrase. If you put something on and feel foolish that’s one thing… but if you put it on and think, oh, I’m not sure… Then it’s best to at least take it for a test drive. What’s it going to hurt to wear that unique item out to Target or to the library?

So much of ‘style’ is actually the confidence to wear what you love!

I picked up these two accessories the other night at forever 21. The hubs and my 'lil boy were with me, so it was power-shopping at it's finest.

The two of these items *combined* were around $10. I think I am on a $10 roll. If it's $10, it's mine. (Just kidding. Kinda.)

The ring is "really cool" (my 2 year old son says so anyway). And the bracelet is a statement piece if I've ever seen one. And, of course, because I am fearless... I wear them together.

We didn't have much on our agenda yesterday.... so I decided to go and scope out a local neighborhood having some garage sales.

I had no intention of walking away with a sandbox, but for $10, I couldn't leave it there.

$10 worth of play-sand later... we have some of the best entertainment under the sun...and it's right on our back deck!

We also have a little table on our deck, so I am hopeful that I can spend some time outside this summer, getting some fresh air, doing some doodling in my notebook, and watching my little boy grow up. These are life's simple pleasures!

my toes have been in dire need of some fresh paint. but, unlike most ladies i know, i don't like pedicures. i don't like having a stranger rub my feet and legs. i also don't like how long it takes, and i don't care much for the price.

so, i was thrilled when i learned {today!} that i could go into a local nail place and get my toe nails shaped, buffed, and painted for $10 in about 30 minutes. NOW, that's my idea of a good time.

so, now i have pretty tootsies. and i am quite happy about it.
